The Amazon Robotics (AR) Operations organization is Amazon’s manufacturing arm for industrial robotics. We manufacture high-quality robotics for fulfillment and transportation centers across Amazon. It’s an operation that works cross-functionally with Engineering and Supply Chain teams. The Continuous Improvement Leader will be responsible for developing strategy and deploying initiatives throughout the facilities by managing programs and assisting teams to achieve higher levels of performance and driving associate engagement.

In this role, you will be responsible for the development of component packaging for new product and technology programs (NPI). You will have the opportunity to identify, develop and commercilaize new, improved and cost-efficient packaging methods. The role will own existing packaging systems and drive improvement in cost, quality and sustainability. The role will drive innovation with new technology in the packaging space including, but not limited to sustainable materials, advanced packaging systems, and equipment automation.

Key job responsibilities

• Manage the development of Packaging concepts with preferred Packaging Vendors and Component part Suppliers.

• Coordinate packaging performance testing, qualifications and validations per ISTA standards.

• Scope new technology and/or opportunities in the packaging space.

• Own business roadmap including commodity management, procurement, budgeting, and identification and qualifying of new packaging vendors.

• Plan and direct activities concerned with design and development of packaging: Analyze engineering drawings and specifications of product to determine physical characteristics of component, special handling and safety requirements.

• Direct development of sketches, specifications, samples and written analyses of proposed packaging solutions for design approvals from cross functional groups.

• Conduct complete and holistic cost analysis to include Packaging, Logistics, and Manufacturing costs to make recommendations to the business: Make vs. Buy or Component Modularity Assembly Level Analysis

• Create, update, and maintain all packaging specific part numbers in PLM system.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of product management experience

  • Experience leading cross-functional teams to deliver projects on tight deadlines

  • Experience developing operational processes and technologies

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical /Industrial Engineering or related discipline

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to lead project with minimal supervision

  • Understanding of materials management, JIT, Kanban approaches

  • Experience with design software such as SolidWorks and/or AutoCAD Design

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience performing financial or other quantitative analyses

  • Experience building and analyzing cost/benefit scenarios and business cases and communicating results throughout the organization

  • Understanding of Automotive Returnable Packaging Systems

  • Knowledge of Artios CAD packaging design software suite

  • Familiar with Transportation and Logistics Principles - knowledge of palletizing and trailer loading software suites

  • Familiar with Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) calculation methods.

  • Working knowledge of Sustainability impact software such as Compass (Trayak).

  • Familiar with industry test standards (ISTA and ASTM).
