Position Purpose:

The Nurse Professional Development Specialist RN Registered Nurse will be responsible for designing, organizing, implementing and evaluating educational programs (orientations, continuing education, and in-services) that facilitate the professional growth, skill development, competency, and attainment of standards of care for direct care nurses within the organization and across all systems of the organization. This position will reside within the Emergency Room at Saint Mary’s Hospital.

What you will do:

  • The NPDS Registered Nurse provides staff development expertise as a nurse leader, mentor, agent of change, consultant/facilitator, and educator/professional development specialist.

  • This role supports the professional development of the bedside caregiver and fosters empowerment through knowledge to achieve excellence through the delivery of evidence-based nursing practice. This occurs through the facilitation of the educational process through assessment, development, planning, implementation, and evaluation of competency assessment, continuing education, and leadership development.

  • The NPDS is instrumental in creating and maintaining a professional nursing climate within the organization to meet the diverse needs of the patient care areas within the Trinity Health Of New England Medical Center.

  • The NPDS collaborates with nursing leadership to identify and meet the global needs of patient care units, multi-disciplinary teams, committees, and task forces.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree is required. Master’s Degree in Nursing preferred or must be WITHIN 6 MONTHs of completing Master’s Program from hire date.

  • Licensure : Current Licensure as a Registered Nurse RN in Connecticut

  • Certification : BLS (AHA/ARC).

  • Experience: 3-5 years of Emergency Room nursing experience is required. Nurse Educator in-field experience is preferred
