We are seeking a Laboratory Supervisor to join our team within an analytical chemistry testing laboratory. The position entails supervision of a team of laboratory analysts engaged in performing elemental, physical property, and classical wet chemistry analytical work on a wide variety of client samples.
Responsibilities:
Ensuring quality analytical work within the laboratory along with compliance to operational, regulatory, and safety requirements
Performing technical review of analytical orders
Coordinating and prioritizing the daily activities of laboratory analysts engaged in performing elemental, physical property, and wet chemistry analyses on a wide variety of client samples
Reviewing analytical testing data for completeness and correctness
Performing equipment and instrument maintenance and troubleshooting
Assessing equipment and instrumentation needs in the laboratory
Monitoring of expenses and maintaining all supplies including the chemical inventory
Writing and amending standard operation procedures and internal analytical procedures
Evaluating productivity metrics and implementing new workflows that will improve efficiencies
Training laboratory personnel
Writing and delivering performance evaluations
Participating in conflict resolution, hiring, and firing
Other duties include serving on a management team and assisting the Laboratory Manager in daily laboratory operations. Some laboratory work will be required in the form of covering for absences, meeting turnaround time expectations, and assisting in the development of new or improved analytical methods.
Qualifications:
The candidate must have a minimum of a B.S. or B.A. degree in Chemistry (or related scientific field) and two years of analytical chemistry laboratory experience, preferably with typical wet chemistry colorimetric, qualitative, and volumetric titration analytical tests. An equivalent combination of education and/or experience will also be considered.
Experience in a cGMP and ISO regulated environment is preferred
An ideal candidate will have familiarity with United States Pharmacopeia (USP), Food Chemical Codex (FCC), or other compendial methods.
Demonstrated supervisory experience in leading scientific or technical teams
Possess excellent written and oral communication skills
Possess strong interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to communicate and work effectively in a collaborative team environment
The candidate must be a good critical thinker and problem solver
Ability to function well in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines, and adapt to ever changing needs
