Department Information

The goal of the Stanford University School of Medicine’s Master of Science in Physician Assistant (MSPA) Studies Program is to educate and train compassionate and diverse PAs who can provide high-quality patient-centered care, are dedicated to improving access to healthcare, and are inspired to become leaders in healthcare.

Job Purpose

The Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies Program at the Stanford School of Medicine is seeking an energetic Clerkship Officer to administer, implement, and interpret University, department, and program policies and procedures in the multifaceted area of student clinical clerkships. This position will identify, clarify, and resolve highly visible or complex issues with substantial significance and impact that may span multiple areas, using advanced technical and professional knowledge requiring independent judgment. The Clerkship Officer must be committed to ensuring a student experience of the highest possible quality.

This position will be based on the Stanford campus and will be considered for an option of telecommuting from the Bay Area (hybrid of working 2-3 days on-site), subject to operational need.

Core Duties

  • Comprehensively administer the area of clerkships, working with the clerkship leadership team and other staff as applicable. This includes, but is not limited to, administration of multiple simultaneous evaluation processes; regular exam administration; rotation onboarding; maintaining relationships with preceptors and site staff; overseeing Program-sponsored support services such as housing and travel stipends; working with all clerkship data, including site and preceptor information; working with the clerkship team to modify rotations as/if needed; monitoring student completion of requirements to pass rotations; and serving as the primary point of contact for administrative clerkship matters to faculty, staff, students, and external stakeholders. May be involved in contracting with rotation sites.

  • Collaborate with team members as well as colleagues within the University community to help resolve clerkship-related issues and concerns, interpret policies, and mediate complex and sensitive issues.

  • Resolve multi-dimensional matters in response to students in crisis, at risk, or who have other program issues, counsel students and parents on sensitive and confidential issues.Create systems to help prevent worst-case outcomes.

  • In collaboration with other MSPA staff, may summarize data from multiple sources, prepare management reports and presentations.

  • Identify and evaluate data needs, manage the implementation and development of technology.

  • Develop and maintain external community and internal University relationships as a primary Program liaison in the clerkship area.Represent Program and University at meetings and events.

  • Provide advice to students on a range of clerkship-related issues, including, but not limited to, academic progress, academic program policies, accessibility, community standards, etc., in order to assist them in making appropriate choices and decisions.

  • Oversee disbursement of student stipends for rotations as applicable.

Education & Experience (Required):

Bachelor’s degree and three years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (Required):

  • Strong communication skills to clearly and effectively communicate information to internal and external audiences, client groups, and management.

  • Advanced analysis and problem solving skills.

  • Advanced computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Advanced customer service skills.

  • Relevant computer systems/technology experience.

  • Understanding of financial transactions.

  • Ability to ensure and apply compliance with legal, financial, and university policies and external regulations.

Highly organized, energetic, self-motivated person who is a resourceful problem solver. Must be able to successfully navigate a change-rich and often past-faced environment, functioning at a high level and collaborating closely with faculty and staff to address issues. Exceptional written and verbal communication as well as sound professional judgment are a must. Must possess excellent customer service skills and be committed to ensuring a student experience of the highest possible quality. Ability to lead software system implementation helpful. Bachelor’s degree preferred. Familiarity with Stanford systems and/or REDCap a plus.

Physical Requirements:

  • Frequently sit, perform desk-based computer tasks.

  • Occasionally stand, walk, twist, use fine manipulation, grasp, use a telephone, write by hand, sort and file paperwork, lift, carry, push, and pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.

The expected pay range for this position is $69,100 to $103,000 per annum.

The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
