What You'll Do

 

Reporting to the Assistant Controller, the Staff Accountant provides accounting services to YWCA.  This position will also provide support to other accounting needs of the YWCA. 

 

This position has a social justice component that will require critical thinking around how the external systems impact the work that we are doing through the lens of racism and intersections with poverty. Knowing the core principals of antiracism work and grounding those principles in everyday work, as well as working well in non-white environments and championing anti-racism policy, are required job skills and core values. Expectations of your role:
  • [General Accounting Duties]{.underline}
  • Assist with A/P payment processing and vendor maintenance
  • Provide backup for A/P, A/R and G/L batch entries and month-end reporting
  • Assist with preparation of monthly bank and other account reconciliations
  • Provide backup for grant compliance, including assistance in the preparation of the annual Statement of Expenditures of Federal Awards (SEFA)
  • Assist with preparation of Agency's annual audit and Form 990 reporting
  • Assist with Special Entity Accounting (Tax Credit Entities), including but not limited to: Prepare monthly journal entries, Import monthly journal entries that Housing team prepares, Monthly account reconciliations, including resolution of any variances, Maintain the fixed asset, Monthly and quarterly reporting to investors, Variance analyses in conjunction with program managers, Monthly reporting to managers & directors, Support the annual tax credit entity audits, Maintenance of tax credit entity financial reports
  • Assist with credit card and other purchasing systems
  • File Monthly State of Washington B&O tax return
  • Quarterly review stale dated checks
  • Assist with annual unclaimed property filing
  • Perform special projects and other duties as assigned or necessary
Must have's to be successful:
  • BA in Accounting or related field, or a combination of experience and education in related field
  • Accounting experience with a focus on complex spreadsheet tasks using all aspects of Microsoft Excel including functions, charts, pivot tables and large workbooks with complex calculations and formulas (i.e., nested IF statements, INDEX MATCH, VLOOKUP, etc.)

  • Demonstrated understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical ability, including the ability to analyze, compare, and interpret data quickly and effectively
  • Excellent attention to detail, strong project management skills and ability to meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated expertise Microsoft Office, and SharePoint 
  • Commitment to ensuring financial integrity, and ability to handle highly confidential information with discretion
