Description

We are offering a contract to hire employment opportunity for an Accounting Assistant in the non-profit industry, based in Saint Paul, Minnesota. This role primarily involves managing and maintaining financial records, ensuring accuracy in transactions, and performing various accounting tasks. You will be working in a dynamic environment where you will have the opportunity to utilize and further develop your accounting skills.

Responsibilities:

• Download, prepare, and maintain client parish financial records from Share Point into LaserFiche

• Verify, approve or post AP, AR, and GL transactions for client parishes

• Perform monthly bank reconciliations

• Compile and produce bi-weekly, monthly, and manual payroll disbursements and distributions of payroll checks at parish location

• Verify the calculation of federal and state tax deposits and required tax reports

• Analyze and maintain IRS Sections 105, 125, and 129 cafeteria plans, 403(b) Tax Deferred Annuities, and miscellaneous payroll reconciliations

• Use Microsoft Excel to prepare and present monthly financial reports

• Perform account reconciliations and journal entries as needed

• Exercise discretion, good judgment, and initiative in all tasks

• Work collaboratively with others and manage multiple tasks to meet deadlines.

Requirements • Minimum of 3 years of experience in an Accounting Assistant role or similar position within the non-profit sector

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office Suite applications

• Proven experience with preparing monthly financial reports and other financial documents

• Demonstrated ability to perform account reconciliation and bank account reconciliation

• Solid understanding of general journal management and the preparation of journal entries

• Experience with month-end journal entries and account closures

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• Strong analytical abilities and attention to detail

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team

• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field is preferred

• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) certification is a plus

• Familiarity with non-profit accounting principles and regulations is advantageous.
