Job Description: The successful candidate will display standard engineering principles to resolve difficult problems, from conception to final design with team input. The candidate will prepare project plans, schedules and lead project assignments in the evaluation, selection and adaptation of various engineering techniques, procedures and criteria with minimal guidance.
With minimal guidance, schedules and leads a team through the planning and execution of a smaller project or defined piece of a larger project (specifically in the area of mold/process engineering). This includes constructing detailed, accurate project schedules, interfacing with development groups and technical support groups.
Works closely with R&D on the product design in order to develop a product and process that is robust for manufacturing. This effort includes development and planning of prototype tools through high cavitation scale-up tools.
Provides support to Device plants on existing products for quality or cost improvements, troubleshooting process issues and leading tool replacement / refurbishment efforts.
Responsibilities include development of budget and schedule for tools, tool design, design reviews, mold approvals and validation of the tools.
Devises new approaches to complex problems though adaptations and modifications of standard technical principles, i.e. ability to bring appropriate new molding technology into manufacturing.
Ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
Ability to manage financial budgets that are allocated to a tool project in an organized responsible manner.
BS in engineering with 3 to 5 years of experience in Molding.
Medical Device Molding experience is preferred.
In depth understanding and experience in tool design, plastics processing, material characteristics & equipment capabilities.
General understanding and experience with the mold validation process.
General understanding of the impact of different resins on tool processing & maintenance.
Knowledge in the various brands and types of hot runner systems, cold runner and gate configurations.
General understanding and experience in scientific / decoupled molding is preferred.
General understanding of Mold Flow.
Individual must be able to work with all levels of the organization.
Individual must demonstrate strong leadership, technical and communication skills.
Individual must be able to operate in a team environment.
Individual must be willing to travel domestically and internationally.
