Summary:

Plan and execute projects and programs designed to ensure the attainment of the company’s goals relative to EHSS outcomes. Lead people and teams to achieve EHSS objectives.

Candidate must not be allergic to Penicillin or Cephalosporins.

Essential job duties and responsibilities:

  • Lead professionals and/or project teams to implement, manage, and/or ensure compliance for Environmental, Health, Safety, Sustainability and/or Industrial Hygiene compliance programs and Baxter policies.

  • Evaluate and act upon new environmental & safety regulations. Ensures compliance with EHSS regulations and Baxter standards; follows emerging EHSS regulations and issues.

  • Manage site activities which impact areas of environmental and/or safety compliance with Federal, State, or Local regulations.

  • Implement site policies concerning environmental and safety issues.

  • Execute proactive EHSS programs including minimizing waste, energy and water usage. Implement Be Well @ Baxter

  • Execute the Baxter EHSS Management system (including ISO 14001 & OHSAS 18001)

  • Proactively identifies potential EHS hazards through risk assessments, Gemba walks, inspections etc, and ensures timely corrective actions are implemented when hazards are identified.

  • Coach and advise EHSS staff and management on ways to improve outcomes; assigns projects or activities to individual contributors

  • Recommend different approaches to improve existing EHSS methods and techniques; establishes success criteria

  • Ensure risk assessments are conducted for all jobs and tasks throughout the facility. Develop effective Corrective Actions and ensure all are completed.

  • Monitor and direct the facility regarding all regulatory permits, including corresponding requirements, reporting and renewals

  • Negotiate and secure contracts for hazardous and non-hazardous waste disposal.

  • Primary contact for regulatory agencies such as EPA and OSHA for inspections, permitting, and reporting.

  • Implement EHSS practices and procedures; focused on managing processes

  • Communicate the business impacts of EHSS to leadership; uses influence to advance EHSS compliance/programs

  • Recommend different approaches to improve existing EHSS methods and techniques; establishes success criteria

  • Lead a single facility; may have region/business responsibility.

  • Interview, hire, coach, motivate, develop, recognize and manage performance of direct reports. Provide regular feedback to all direct reports. Set performance objectives, support development plans and monitor progress.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to deliver results through the management of others.

  • Proven track record of interpersonal and leadership skills with ability to interface well with other departments, and lead effectively and efficiently in a team environment.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities.

  • Ability to analyze and interpret scientific, and statistical data.

  • Strong professional writing skills and ability to prepare technical reports. Ability to clearly articulate information during regulatory inspections.

  • Ability to understand GMPs and other applicable regulatory guidelines.

  • Strong assessment and troubleshooting skills.

  • Ability to respond to detailed inquiries and present information to groups and senior leaders.

  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to use enterprise software.

  • Ability to collect and analyze data and information to determine paths for process improvement and potential root cause

  • Ability to respond to detailed inquiries and present information to groups and senior leaders.

  • Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong business acumen.

  • Possess a working knowledge of related disciplines/other functions including manufacturing and operations processes.

  • Green or Black Belt certification preferred.

  • Must be conversant in applicable EHS&S regulations.

  • Professional certifications preferred.

  • Continuous improvement focus and track record.

Education and/or Experience:

  • B.S. Degree in Environmental, Safety, Engineering or related field required; M.S. Degree in Environmental or Safety Engineering or Technology preferred

  • Minimum of 8-10 years related experience which should include leadership experience through direct supervision or indirect leadership roles (project management, leading teams, mentoring).
