Purpose of the Role

This role is a very exciting one that will see you deliver against our Global Marketing Procurement strategic objectives, as well as enable our Global Travel team to grow our GT business across our many geographies through brilliant business partnering.

This role will see you deliver Procurement outcomes for Diageo across all areas of A&P Marketing spend through effective business partnering, project management and collaboration across Procurement and GT teams. This includes (but is not limited to):

  • Applying project management and operational support excellence, through creation of detailed work plans and project management oversight built on Diageo’s best methods, standards and tools, to deliver procurement value.

  • Leading or supporting Project and Sourcing activities for specific categories of spend procured in Market, this includes negotiations with suppliers and agency partners and contracting.

  • Supporting end-to-end execution of category strategies and GT’s implementation plan, working with global and other market category professionals in line with strategy.

  • Developing subject-matter expertise across all areas of Advertising and Promotion spend and lead across the implementation of projects related to these spend areas.

  • Designing and maintaining regular market/procurement performance reporting and communications including Salesforce and Contract reporting.

  • Leading on all core requirements across Procurement Governance, including spend monitoring, segmentation, risk management, savings tracking and contract governance.

The Procurement Category Specialist is accountable for active participation in a global community of procurement professionals in one or more spend categories, including joining regular meetings, supporting alignment around strategy, supporting development of own and others’ capabilities & expertise and sharing of standard processes.

This role may require the candidate to lean into the wider Marketing Procurement Global team to provide delivery against our strategic objectives so agility and adaptability are critical.

Skills and Experience

  • Graduate or equivalent qualification.

  • Minimum 4 – 6 years’ experience in Project Management, Procurement, Finance, FMCG Commercial or other relevant role, with subject-matter expertise in markets and spend categories relevant to the role.

  • Demonstrated performance in projects and in cross-market teams, experience developing and implementing category and procurement strategies, managing and negotiating with suppliers and inspiring change initiatives to further business performance.

  • Strong analytical and financial awareness including a strong understanding of AOP requirements and financial goals & value drivers relevant to the categories in scope.

  • Track record of generating insights to influence decision-making, good commercial foresight.

  • Good systems knowledge (esp. SAP, CLM, Salesforce, M/S Office, or similar systems & tools).

  • Strong verbal, written and presentation; strong interpersonal skills.

  • Proven track record of consistent performance and delivery.

  • Prince 2, Six Sigma or equivalent qualification (Desirable).

  • Clear track record of effectively managing large-scale and complex projects with multiple team member groups including effective prioritisation and value delivery.

  • Experience working within KPI-led performance management structures and rigorous tiered reporting and performance review structures.

  • Proactively uses the learning curriculums and materials on Learning Hub and other sources to continuously grow and develop in role.

  • Able to communicate effectively and adjust style to suit multiple audience types, levels of seniority or customer groups.

  • Ability to take complex data and simplify to ensure others are able to fully grasp and understand the ‘story’, data or objectives.

Category-specific/ Market-specific Requirements

  • Design and oversight of category work plan and priorities and provide project management expertise to strategic improvement plans for the market.

  • Build credible, sustainable relationships with partners and suppliers, establishing Procurement as a long-term business partner across Global Travel.

  • Ensure due diligence in management of spend through benchmarking, cost modelling, sourcing and bidding practices including application of Production methodology to support 2030 ambitions around Diversity and Inclusion and Sustainability.

  • Establish improved ways of working, tools, data and insight to embed a cost consciousness culture that support the cost out / productivity ambitions.

  • Implement and maintain a periodical robust reporting mechanism for Global Travel including efficiency reporting via Salesforce.

  • Supplier Performance Management - Track and monitor critical metric priorities and progress to drive consistency across Global Travel suppliers improving the value of data output and reporting through leading our Relationship Collaboration Programme.

  • Support delivery of local market strategy/implementation plan aligned to business strategy. Ensure robust performance management, agency collaboration and use of global network and CoE communities to drive standard processes.

Accountabilities

General

  • Project Management. Lead and manage several projects across Global Travel to contribute to the delivery of our Procurement and business objectives.

  • Category excellence. Lead development of best in class market data and knowledge, implementation plans and sourcing events including improvement of existing and development of new tools & techniques.

  • Savings Reporting. Manage all Salesforce reporting flowing into Qlik for monthly Tier meetings.

  • Procurement Strategy Execution.

  • Business partnering. In close alignment with Global Category Managers, develop and grow relationships with partners and suppliers for deeper insights into needs and capabilities; articulate requirements and deliver insights for greater value from customer collaboration.

  • Best in class capabilities. Generate insights and opportunities from internal and external benchmarking, develop cost models to consider scenarios with suppliers and partners and build & evolve analytics capabilities that allow regular review and improvement of strategies.

  • Strategy execution. Support end to end execution of category strategies across geographical and organisational boundaries. Track and monitor progress against performance goals, providing detailed, monthly critical metric data (including reconciliation to category team tracking projects, savings, supplier performance, etc.). Work in close collaboration with other Market colleagues aligned behind relevant strategies and facilitate critical issues.

  • Support to Global CoEs. Support Global CoEs with strategy development as required. Especially, ensure that Market and local market data and requirements are addressed fully and GT’s Market nuances are considered as part of this process.

Sourcing

  • Complete sourcing activities for relevant Marketing spend categories.

  • Engage community members as required, apply Diageo Procurement best practice standard. Support GT throughout sourcing and bidding practices (e.g., Pitches & Chemistry Sessions).

  • For relevant sourcing projects, support effective planning and apply expert negotiation tactics.

  • Support category managers in negotiating and closing contracts.

  • Complete contracts into the system. Manage contracts and contract compliance (Diageo partner compliance and Supplier compliance) through contract lifecycles.

Risk management

  • Mitigate strategic risks. As part of category strategy and implementation execution, identify, record and follow-up risk mitigations in line with strategies and standard processes.

  • Mitigate sourcing risks. Identify risks associated with sourcing activities, put mitigations in place and implement them, engaging all relevant collaborators, partners and suppliers to ensure the mitigations are successful. This may include SEDEX compliance and reporting.

  • Apply and improve tools & techniques. Apply Diageo best practice standards, ensuring the most recent and relevant approaches are always applied; use formal governance and peer review to ensure the quality and efficiency of risk management; contribute to development of standards.

  • Supplier relationship management.

  • Supplier relationship. Establish standards, ways of working and trust relationships with agencies/suppliers in relevant categories; ensure Diageo standard methodologies are applied and that there is a good foundation for strong performance, risk mitigation and rapid resolution of issues. Drive RCP where applicable.

  • Supplier performance. Set critical metrics, driving consistency across suppliers and agencies improving the value of data generated and liaise with Global Travel proactively for resolution of raised issues.

  • Supplier development. In line with Procurement strategic supplier strategies, collaborate with suppliers to unlock breakthrough opportunities for the business; stimulate supplier capabilities to generate ideas for the future and unlock opportunities for growth across Global Travel.
