Insight Global Vintage Antique Repair Technician in Gillette, Wyoming

Job Description

Insight Global is assisting a client in identifying a skilled Vintage / Antique Repair Technician for a direct hire opportunity in Wyoming, with relocation assistance included. As an essential member of our organization, you will be responsible for restoring, repairing, and maintaining historical treasures to their new life. You'll meticulously assess furniture, artwork, ornaments, and other valuables to diagnose damage and craft a personalized restoration plan. This involves historical research to understand the piece's origin, value, and appropriate restoration methods. With a keen eye and skilled hands, you'll perform delicate repairs using a blend of traditional and modern techniques. Whether it's restoring a chipped porcelain doll, refinishing a faded painting, or replacing missing pieces on a grandfather clock, your goal is to preserve the item's authenticity and craftsmanship. You'll meticulously document the entire process, including detailed notes, photographs, and chosen techniques. You'll also provide expert advice on ongoing care and maintenance to ensure its longevity. This role thrives on collaboration, so expect to work alongside other artisans, conservators, and specialists to share knowledge and stay updated on the latest advancements in restoration practices, materials, and tools.

Assessment and Evaluation:

Inspecting items to determine the extent of damage and the best course of action for repair.

Evaluating the historical significance and value of each piece to ensure appropriate restoration techniques are applied.

Repair and Restoration:

Performing delicate repairs using traditional methods and modern techniques to preserve the integrity and authenticity of the item.

Replacing missing or damaged parts while maintaining the original aesthetic and craftsmanship.

Cleaning and refinishing surfaces to remove dirt, grime, and tarnish without causing further damage.

Documentation and Research:

Documenting the repair process, including before and after photographs, written reports, and detailed notes on techniques used.

Conducting research to identify the historical context of each item and verify authenticity, provenance, and appropriate restoration methods.

Customer Interaction:

Communicating with clients to understand their expectations and preferences for the repair or restoration of their items.

Providing expert advice on maintenance and care to ensure the longevity of restored pieces.

Collaboration and Continuous Learning:

Collaborating with other artisans, conservators, and experts in related fields to enhance skills and knowledge.

Staying updated on industry trends, conservation practices, and new materials and tools that can improve repair techniques.

Skills and Requirements

* Proven experience in antique restoration, preferably with formal training in a related field such as furniture making, woodworking, metalworking, or conservation.

* Extensive knowledge of different materials, techniques, and historical periods to accurately assess and repair a wide variety of antiques and vintage items.

* Excellent craftsmanship and attention to detail, with the ability to execute repairs that are virtually undetectable and preserve the original character of each piece.

* Strong research skills to investigate the history and provenance of items and make informed decisions about restoration methods. * Additional technical certifications or coursework in antiques, electronics, or related fields null
