At USAG Fort Novosel (formerly Fort Rucker, AL),SA-TECHprovides Range Operations and Maintenance (OandM) support services for live training of the Aviation Gunnery Range Complex (AGRC) for the Aviation Center of Excellence and Fort Novosel Military Installation. We also provide OandM Core Services that enable management and maintenance of training areas and ranges by integrating mission requirements with environmental requirements and sound land management practices under the Installation Management Command (IMCOM) Directorate of Plans, Training, Mobilization, and Security (DPTMS) Directorate. The Fort Novosel Range and Training Complex encompasses roughly 60,000 acres across the Alabama counties of Dale and Coffee.

We are currently hiring aGIS Analyst/AVOID Operations Specialistto be the primary GIS analyst and data steward for DPTMS/Range Branch at the Fort Novosel Gunnery Range Complex,Fort Novosel, AL. In this role, you will utilize ArcGIS with appropriate toolsets to complete daily tasks. Normal GIS duties include (but are not limited to) the creation/editing of map features and internal metadata as well as map/overview development.

Other duties include (but are not limited to):

  • Be the primary SDZ/WDZ developer and utilize the RMTK toolset to create, manage and review existing and new SDZs/WDZs.
    • You'll need to be familiar with GPS hardware and software for positional analysis of map features.
  • Assist Army aviators with geospatial vertical obstruction data (AVOID) collection, website administration, database development, analysis, and products to support daily ongoing project activities.
    • Normal duties include making updates to the AVOID website, ground verification of vertical obstructions, running scripts to create exportable data packages, producing raster maps, database administration, coordination between Army aviators and the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA), frequent presentations for Army and government personnel, and customer support including travel to customer sites to meet required standards.
    • Duties may also involve the creation and design of the processes and standards utilized for project execution.
    • The AVOID Administrator may be asked to support projects dealing with analysis of obstruction data in support of product development and new business opportunities.
  • Act as the CommandTRACKER subject matter expert.
    • Normal duties include accessing and administering a virtual-based server to manage the overall common operating picture.
    • Will utilize ESRI, Motorola and CommandTRACKER functions to update background imagery/features, vehicle icons, and IDs.
    • Will coordinate with outside entities to maintain the overall efficiency of the CommandTRACKER system.
    • Will aid in the product development and installation of systems as required.
    • To maintain the systems used for normal operations, you'll need a vast sense of IT-related functions as they relate to software and hardware usability.
  • Assist with Range Operational duties as a certified safety inspector and will act as a shift leader when required.
  • Act as a RFMSS functional administrator to schedule units and maintain accountability of range/training area usage.
  • May also be required to act in capacities such as building monitors, additional duty safety (occupational), environmental officer, or other additional duties when assigned.

Work Conditions:

  • Indoors, sitting at computer 70 % of shift.
  • There will be 10% standing, 10% walking, 5% reaching, 5% lifting.
  • Will need to lift items up to 40 lbs. alone, and anything over 40 lbs., with assistance.

Requirements:

Education/Experience/Skills:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
    • BA/BS in a relevant field from an accredited college or university is preferred.
  • Proficiency using ArcGIS Suite (ArcMap, ArcCatalog and ArcPad)
  • Experience with Ground Survey Equipment to include Global Positioning Systems (GPS).
  • Experience Microsoft Access or equivalent RDBMS, knowledge of ASP and HTML web design and must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Firing Desk Certificationisrequired within 30 days of hire.
  • Range Facility Management Support Systems (RFMSS) knowledge is a plus!
  • Familiarity with Military range-related terminology and regulatory training procedures, would be helpful.
  • Knowledge of the U. S. Army Aviation Safety Regulations and Flight Operations procedures is desirable.
  • Prior military experience, data conversion cartography, graphics, presentation writing and report writing are all desirable.
  • Current Alabama Driver's License required; must be able to be insured through company's vehicle insurance policy while driving work/government/rental vehicles during working hours, and for the duration of employment.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required and you must be able to obtain and maintain a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) upon hire.
  • All candidates will be required to pass background screening to include SSN, Driver Record, and Criminal Background Investigation.
