Seasonal Bus Washer/Helper

Job Description

Purpose: Clean buses and activity vehicles during summertime to ensure

vehicles meet standards for upcoming school year.

Responsible to: Transportation/Supply Supervisor

Range: Transportation/Supply Hourly Rate Schedule, Level 1

Classification of Employment: Non-Exempt

Date: July 2019

Qualifications:

1. High school student over age 16 or high school diploma or equivalent.

2. Valid Kansas drivers license.

3. Must be able to follow all safety rules and practices.

4. Subject to pre-employment drug testing.

Essential Functions:

1. Knowledge, Skill and Abilities

a. Safely operate cleaning equipment and hand power tools.

b. Ability to complete an assigned task in a safe manner.

c. Able to work with co-workers/supervisor in a cooperative manner.

d. Support the value of an education.

e. Support the philosophy and mission of Derby Public Schools.

f. Comply with all district policies, rules and regulations.

2. Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions

a. Requires the ability to sit and/or stand for prolonged periods.

b. Requires the ability to stoop, bend, reach and/or and lift.

c. Requires the ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.

d. Follow safe handling procedures of certain chemicals.

e. Requires regular attendance and/or physical presence at the job.

General Responsibilities:

1. Maintain order and a positive environment among students in the vehicle.

2. Clean buses/activity vehicles including scrubbing exteriors, windows, and

mirrors.

3. Clean interior of buses/activity vehicles, including drivers compartment,

windows, handrails, mirrors, seats, floors, and step wells.

4. Remove gum, candy and other foreign materials from interior.

5. Vacuum and shampoo carpets.

6. Report damage, broken items and upholstery defects to maintenance personnel

7. Monitor operation of steam cleaning machine, and stop machine or notify

supervisor if or when malfunction occurs.

8. Clean bus shop bays and empties trash.

9. Adhere to all district health and safety policies.

10. Other duties as assigned by the Transportation/Supply Supervisor that are

consistent with the general requirements and qualifications of this position.
