Job Summary:

Follows a variety of generally defined procedures under general guidance. Handles multiple inquiries and develops solutions for moderately complex issues. Responsible for the installation and implementation of applications. Performs moderately complex design analyses and tests. Participates in and may lead project teams. Works under limited supervision

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Follows a variety of generally defined procedures under general guidance within functional disciplines such as network, server architecture, applications, technical service, etc. Works independently and output is occasionally reviewed while in progress. The supervisor is consulted for assistance in problem areas.

2. Uses information technology theories and practices to provide guidance and/or training to lower-level co-workers within the same or job-related work group on moderately complex duties.

3. Handles a variety of inquiries and develops solutions for moderately complex issues. Solutions are often based on the review of prior practices and/or experiences in similar situations. Most complex problem solving may require the use of experience, analysis, and research to resolve. Uses intermediate analytical skills to analyze trends or data. Uses short-term planning skills when forecasting or providing guidance to clients.

4. Decisions or actions are based on more alternatives and greater adaptation to circumstances, having a clear impact on operational effectiveness of work operations, schedules, or performance goals.

5. Work tasks encompass concepts within one or more disciplines/practices within one department/location. Working tasks might include:

a. Develops test data and performance system tests. Documents results of evaluations/tests and makes recommendations for decisions.

b. Installs/implements new or modified components (hardware/software) as well as client application solutions.

c. Oversees information and telecommunication systems for assigned client community.

d. Participates in teams to design, develop, and implement new processes, systems, and programs or revises or maintains existing processes, systems, and programs.

e. Provides on-line identification and resolution of hardware and software problems.

f. Supports planning for installation and conversion plans.

g. Assists vendors in maintaining work project priorities. Monitors vendor performance for compliance with Company standards and procedures

h. Participates in and may lead project teams.

i. Begins to develop a network of resources for completion of assignments.

j. Develops basic understanding of client organizations and IT functions.

k. Conducts regular user meetings to discuss concerns and issues.

6. Primary contacts are typically internal and on a professional, supervisory, or co-worker level.

7. Interaction is focused on exchanging factual information directly related to the professional discipline, usually with explanation and discussion with an audience which is knowledgeable in the subject area.

8. Actively participates in relevant corporate programs/initiatives, complies with professional and quality standards, complies with corporate policies and procedures, and acts in a manner consistent with 3M’s values and ethical standards. The job also requires performing other duties as assigned. Percentages of time spent on job duties are estimates and may vary for each position.

Qualifications:

(Education/Experience and Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

• A Bachelor level university/college degree is generally required.

• In some countries, a 2-3 year technical or vocational degree in a specific field may be considered equivalent.

• In addition, a minimum of 2-3 years relevant working experience is normally required. Working knowledge of theories and practices, typically applied to one discipline, such as as network, server architecture, applications, technical service, etc.

• Possesses knowledge of assigned area of responsibility and continues to expand knowledge of general 3M structure, organization, and business.

• Generally, requires the ability to communicate in written English.

• Good interpersonal, coordination, and analytical skills.

• Knowledge of basic business concepts.

• Knowledge of computer programs and corporate systems relevant to the assigned area of responsibility is normally required.

• Good computer skills, knowledge of software/hardware configurations.

• Good systems analysis and/or programming skills.

• Has awareness of information technology opportunities and the initiative to suggest ideas for their use.
